Walking the dog Theater announces its performance line-up for 2009. The company will present modern and classical productions that will showcase their approach to ensemble theater. The 2009 Season will give life to many diverse stories in humorous, profound, and sometimes experimental ways. The company will explore, through the live theater event, many dimensions of what it means to be human.

Again this year Walking the dog Theater will collaborate with other organizations to create productions. The company will team up with Theatre of The Word (UK) and PS21 to present TWELFTH NIGHT and with Bindlestiff Family Variety Arts to create the first annual Hudson GHOST WALK. The company will has also revisited its U.S. premiere of THE GOSPEL OF JOHN, touring the West Coast and New England. Walking the dog Theater’s popular OFF LEASH! Improv Ensemble will continue to perform throughout the year.

THE OFF LEASH! IMPROV ENSEMBLE plays the moment, discovering the profound, the unexpected, and the hilarious, taking audience suggestions and exploring the art of spontaneous imagination. Performing monthly.

VIRTUE, DESIRE, DEATH, AND FOOLISHNESS, an evening of dramatized tales from Anton Chekhov. Anton Chekhov loved people, and his stories examine the breadth of the human experience. This original, devised theater piece will give life to a wide variety of these stories. Adapted and directed by Melania Levitsky with an ensemble of actors. Performing June 26th-July 19th at Basilica Industria.

TWELFTH NIGHT will be presented in collaboration with Theatre of The Word (UK) and PS21. With Walking the dog Theater's unmistakable style of ensemble theater and passion for the work of William Shakespeare, the company will breathe new life into this beloved comedy. Shipwreck, mistaken identities, unrequited love, feisty servants and scheming relatives. Performing August 6th-30th at PS21 in Chatham.

HUDSON’S FIRST ANNUAL GHOST WALK will be presented in collaboration with Bindlestiff Family Variety Arts. In February 2009 Bindlestiff Family Variety Arts and Walking the Dog Theater kicked off the Ghost Story writing contest open to all Columbia County teens between the ages of 13 and 19. The Ghost story writing contest is looking for the four best and/or scariest stories written by County teens which young actors will then bring to life in various "haunted" buildings in Hudson as part of the 2009 Ghost Walk Tour. On November 6 tour groups will travel on foot from one historic site to the next. In each of the places, Walking the dog Theater's young storytellers from the After School Drama program will bring one of the winning stories to ghostly life... All groups will wind up at 8:30pm at Space 360 on Warren Street for refreshments, an acknowledgment ceremony, and a chilling final story: Henry Hudson will appear to tell his own mysterious tale. I TAKE YOUR HAND IN MINE is the love story between two exceptional people: Anton Chekhov, famous playwright, and Olga Knipper, leading lady for the world famous Moscow Art Theatre. Olga and Anton knew each other for six years, three of which they were married, until his death in 1904. During the short time they knew each other, Olga and Anton wrote over 400 letters to each other. Written by Carol Rocamora and directed by Benedicta Bertau, this performance is their story, in their own words. Performing November 12th-29th at Space 360.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL, by Charles Dickens, directed by Ted Pugh, and featuring David Anderson and music by Jonathan Talbott. This seasonal favorite creates the experience of Charles Dickens' tour of New England, when the author performed his famous story for American audiences. David Anderson portrays Dickens and all the characters, and reveals one man’s transformation through his encounter with spirits. Performing December 4th-20th at Space 360.
