The folks at Mass MoCA have a thing for the tie-in. Almost every one of their big exhibitions comes paired with a thematically congruent performance event. This Friday is no exception, as Animal Farm: The Puppet Musical comes to the stage of the Hunter Center. U.K.-based Synapse Productions has promoted this live-action version of George Orwell’s second-best-known work as “Lion King with livestock,” and, judging by the previews we’ve caught, it looks to be a one-of-a-kind theater experience. It’s a civics lesson, socialist manifesto, and freakin’ puppet show all in one . . . with show tunes. The show ties in (loosely, we should add) with the exhibit Becoming Animal: Contemporary Art in the Animal Kingdom, which will be on display on the second and third floors of the MASS MoCA gallery through February.

Catch the one and only area performance of Animal Farm: The Puppet Musical at MASS MoCA (1040 MASS MoCA Way, North Adams, Mass.) tomorrow (Friday, Dec. 9).
